The Backstory

Most days, I’m not interested in telling the story of a polished, perfect Jesus who floats six inches above the ground. I’m far more drawn to the Jesus who shows up in the middle of the mess — the one who sits down at the table with the people everyone else has written off, who laughs at bad jokes, who weeps with the broken on the bathroom floor, and who loves us so fiercely it’s almost embarrassing.

Our characters exist for the newly saved, the faith-curious, and the “Christian-light” souls who love Jesus but can’t quite see themselves in the stained-glass version of faith. 

We tell stories about people the way the Bible does: complicated, embarrassed, doing the wrong thing for the right reason and the right thing for the wrong one, trying again. The kind of people you can't always root for, but you can always find yourself in.

I want us to remember what a pure, forgiving, wide-open relationship with God actually feels like — less performance, more presence.

At Holy Smoak Studios, We are deeply curious about the long, complicated, human history of faith — how God has been described, debated, painted, feared, loved, and misrepresented across centuries. We trace those roots not to tear anything down, but because understanding where something came from is often how you find your way back to what it actually is. We hold it gently. We ask questions.

My stories are prayers with plot twists. 

We believe that stories are where God has always done some of His best work — burning bushes and borrowed donkeys and women who weren't supposed to be there but were. 

We just try to be faithful to that tradition.
