As the congregation rebuilds from the physical damage, Georgia Davenport pulls the building fund records and finds a financial arrangement that has been quietly draining the church for decades. Before anyone can confront Reverend Doyle, his son Sherman Jr. arrives from Atlanta — an estate attorney — and the pieces begin to fall into place about what his father built, what he stole, and why he drove into a hurricane rather than face a Sunday morning.
The season moves on two tracks simultaneously. The external track is the mystery — what did Doyle do, how far back does it go, and where is he now. The internal track is the congregation's reckoning with what the storm uncovered about themselves — their faith, their silence, their covering, and the cost of finally stopping.
Every character has been keeping something covered. The storm removed the dish. What they each choose to do with what is now visible is the season's complete dramatic question.
By the finale the mystery is resolved, the congregation is permanently altered, and every major character has stood in front of the worst true thing about their life and made a decision.
